Imagine just completing something that you have been waiting to finish for the last four years. It is finally over and this great weight has been lifted from your shoulders. However, before you can truly savor the moment, BOOM, it is dropped right back on you. What I am referring to is the great transition from high school to college. Making this move from high school to college is almost like starting over again. You go from "the top of the food chain" (high school senior) right back to the bottom (college freshman) in a two and a half month stint. As a high school senior you have less freedom, less work, and high respect. These three privileges are taken from you in one fail swoop once you reach college. In your first semester of college, you are bombarded with so much time-consuming work that it's just like being in the ninth grade all over again. These are some of the things that make college so different from high school.
The first thing that makes the transition from high school to college so difficult is freedom. In high school you had your freedom from time to time but for the most part if you were at school you had to go to class there was no cutting and no leaving early. Once you reach college it's total freedom if you don't want to go to class you don't really have too. If in the middle of a class at college you feel as though you cannot deal with it or you don't really feel like being there you can just get up and leave. Also in high school you couldn't just sleep in if you want to your parents are always there to tell you to go to school. The same is not exactly true for college. Now in college you're able to sleep in if you're tired or not feeling like going to class you can just stay in your dorm. These couple of things might sound great, because now you truly can do whatever you want, but the problem is new college students may take this freedom for granted.
