Marcus Antonius V.S. Marcus Brutus

             In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare there is a man V.S. man conflict that takes place in act III scene II. The conflict is between Marcus Antonius and Marcus Brutus. The both have their ways of trying to persuade the crowd that their point of view of Julius Ceasars death is the right one. Marcus Antonius uses the way of reversed psychology while Marcus Brutus uses a way of telling the people it was in their best interest that Ceasar was killed. Which way of persuasion do you think is most effective? In this essay I am going to compare and contrast Marcus Antonius and Marcus Brutus's speeches and maybe I can help you better answer that question.
             Marcus Brutus uses a technique in his speech in which he tries to tell the people that having Ceasar killed was in their best interest. Brutus asks the crowd, "Had you rather Ceasar were living, and die all slaves, than that Ceasar were dead, to live free men?" In this statement he is telling the people that if he was to have let Ceasar live they would all have been slaves and life for them wouldn't be as good as it would be with him dead. This is a good example of Brutus's technique to persuade the crowd. Another statement Brutus says it this, "With this I depart, that, as I slew my best lover for the good of Rome..." In this statement he is telling the people that he loved Julius Ceasar greatly but again it was in their best interest that he was put to death. This is another great example of Brutus's technique of persuasion against the Plebeians.
             Marcus Antonius uses a different technique of persuasion, his technique is reversed psychology. Antony keeps telling the people that Brutus says Ceasar was ambicious, but before he said this he would make a statement.
