A dictionary definition of determination would be firmness in a cause. Every individual has something that they strongly believe in and behind it they have determination. Whether it is the star quarterback making a winning run with determination flaring in his eyes or the final move that will ultimately end the game of chess and trap the king in checkmate, you can be determined about anything. Everyone is determined in some aspect of life.
             You know that feeling inside of you that is pushing you to finish or do something? That is determination. One way to define determination is the urge to do something or succeed at something. In sports you have to have determination. Every day when you put on your jersey or practice clothes, you are showing determination. When I am running a cross-country race, I am determined from the moment the gun goes off at the beginning. I am determined to finish the race, go for a better time, to finish strong, and do the best I possibly can that race.
             Another way determination can be used is when you make a determination between two things. You make determinations everyday. Determinations can be as simple as what to have for dinner. They can also be life changing or threatening. An example of something big you might have to determine is the choice to do drugs. You have the choice to say yes or no. When you make a determination or a decision you have to deal with the consequences of it. A judge would have to determine whether or someone is guilty or innocent with the evidence presented before him or her.
             What is the difference between being determined and being stubborn? Being stubborn is a negative way to say determined. The only difference between the two words is the connotation.
