The A&P

In this story we are talking about a teenager who is coming of age. The character seems to be in his mid teens and happens to be a boy. Boys of that age tend to have a queer behavior when it comes to sexual attraction and their attempts at chivalry are charming, but preconceived. They think they know everything about it. So they will rely on their knowledge to get them through life, but one day in the early part of their lives they will eventually have a rude awakening. What they thought they knew will be thrown in their faces.
In the first paragraph of the story three girls walk into the store dressed in their bathing suits. The character immediately notices the girls and infatuation starts to set in. In the second paragraph he begins to become aware of what they are wearing and in his mind thinks that they are "hot". So he starts to imagine things in his mind. This is not a good thing because he is a cashier at the A&P and forgot what he was doing. Causing him to neglect his duties and got a little old woman angry.
The character begins to become aroused by his fantasies and starts to think that the girls are sexy. "There was this chunky one, with the two piece –it was bright green and the seams on the bra were still sharp and her belly was still pretty pale so I guessed she just got it" (para. 2). He becomes a stickler on detail. He wants to keep the image of the girl in his mind.
With the fantasy still going on the character begins to have a sexual desire for either one or all of these girls. He describes one of girls by saying, "With the straps pushed off, there was nothing between the top of the suit and the top of her head except just her, this clean bare place of the top of her chest down from the shoulder bones like a dented sheet of metal tilted in the light" (para. 3). He begins to point out the more appealing part of the girl's body.
