Marijuana

             Two men sit in a jail cell both carrying out the sentence for their crimes. One of them is there for murder and the other for possessing a plant called marijuana. In the state of North Carolina, it is illegal to posses more than ½ an once of marijuana. This law does not make much sense. What is odd about this is that a plant that grows from the earth just as a rose or tulip does, can cause a man to be arrested. Marijuana should not be prohibited from medical or recreational use. It is not as dangerous as other products on the market today. Marijuana can be used for stress relief as well.
             In today's society marijuana is looked at as a dangerous drug. Many people feel that it is dangerous because it is a gateway drug for more lethal drugs. This is the main support for marijuana's dangerous effects. This stereotype is totally wrong. Marijuana is not a gateway drug and is not as dangerous as most people believe. Marijuana is not physically addictive like many other narcotics. Marijuana's effects can be easily compared to any other sedative medical or recreational.
             Marijuana can be used to relieve stress. A hardworking person can use marijuana to help escape from the stress and problems of everyday life. Marijuana causes the user to feel relaxed and comfortable. They are able to relax and enjoy the rest of there day. People who have stressful jobs have gone on record stating that marijuana has helped them to keep their emotions in check. In an interview by Lester Grinspoon, a middle school teacher named Mark James, states that "Marijuana has been a godsend for helping me to relax and control my temper". Even though it has positive uses it is still illegal.
             Marijuana is not as dangerous as alcohol or cigarettes. While marijuana is illegal many other dangerous products like cigarettes and alcohol are distributed every day. Each day, commercials are run warning today's youth about the dangers of drinkin...
