An Autobiography by the Late Helen Burns
"I am set to light the ground, While the beetle goes his round: Follow now the beetle's hum; little wanderer, hie thee home."
I have learned throughout my life that if you follow your dreams, or at least do what your heart tells you to do, life will be a success. Thanks to my good friend's Jane, Buddha, and Miss Temple, I am now free of any worries. I have learned to care for myself, and most of all, look on the bright side. There have been many situations in my life that I have been under so much pressure and so little encouragement that I might as well have killed myself. After learning the real important things in life, I can look past situations like that and be as happy as I possibly can. No that I sit here in what may end up being my deathbed because of the terrible illness that is going around Lowood school, My Life, filled with adventure and hope, was more important to Jane than anyone else in the world.
This was the day that changed my life, the last day of my struggle. 7:30am: another usual day so far in my simple, plain, and pathetic excuse for a childhood. This morning Ms. Schatchard gave me 100 spankings for not tucking in my shirt. I wish I was more daring so that I could explain to her that I only made a mistake; but I guess she was right. 1:25pm: I met one of the most interesting people today. She said her name was Jane Eyre. She must have been only 12 or 13 years old but she knew what she wanted and was very bold. I told her about my troubles with Ms. Schatchard and how she thought that everything I do was a fault. I also told her that I think I deserve it because I am a pathetic imbecile. Jane says that if she were in my shoes, she would tell Ms. Schatchard what she really thinks of her. I have really learned a lot today. Jane says, "you mustn't take your life too seriously".
