Europe. In East Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Poland, the Soviet Union was inflicting communist routines. The war was then extended out of Europe and into Asia when North Korea invaded South Korea, and before it when China became the People's Republic of China in 1949. Much influence was put on numerous countries in the Third World by the Soviet Union, the West and to a lighter extent, China, which took the Cold War global.
             In 1945, the United States and the Soviet Union almost gained great lasting cooperation, but their major differences caused this not to happen. The friendship between the two almost occurred in 1941, when the Soviet Union had joined the Western Allies in fighting Germany after Germany had attacked the Soviet Union. By the joining, wartime cooperation was made. Regards of Eastern Europe still separated the two though, and after the war was over the United States started a "get tough" policy, which led to the Soviet Union accusing the capitalist allies, including the United States, for trying to encircle the Soviet Union, so in the future they could overthrow the Soviet's Communist government.
             In 1947, the Soviet Union established the Cominform or Communist Information Bureau to ensure the Soviet's control of European communism and to promote communism to Europe. This formed the Soviet's view of Marxist-Leninist ideology. The United States reacted in numerous ways. First, the United States initiated a policy of containment, initially with the Truman Doctrine of aid to Greece and Turkey in 1947. Then in 1948, the United States countered the Soviet Union with the Marshall Plan for Europe's economic reconstruction, and the airlift between 1948 and 1949 to blockade Berlin, Germany.
