This story touched my heart. I couldn't believe that one man had so much persistence to get what he wanted done. This story should be a lesson to anyone who wants to do something for themselves or for others. It teaches us to strive, and not to give up. Overcome every obstacle, to not let up, much like Alzeard Bouffier. If I were to undertake this task I do not think that I would be able to it. In today's society everything is animated or electronic, it is a very fast passed world that we live in, and I would not have the patience to wait 3 years to see some sort of worthwhile for my work. The hermit Shepard did not have very many things to worry about. Just him and his sheep he didn't have to pay bills or drive a car. It was just him in his own little world. That is much different then the way we are today. We live in the high-tech, governed world. In which we contribute to the better of the whole by paying taxes and voting. That may be why no one really goes out by themselves to plant trees. Either we don't have the time or the patience. Or there are just more important things for us to worry about. Like feeding our children or paying off our house. Alzeard Bouffier did not have to do either.
             Bouffier was not a selfish man. He did something he did not have to do. He did not take credit for it he just did it. Out of the goodness of his heart. He planted hope, which grew into happiness. People don't understand that one person can change the world. But this story gives inspiration to those people. Alzeard was not a rich man but what he did for everyone else was very nice. Much like actors and musicians or sport athletes today. They have more money then they know what to do with.
