When two people come together in a marriage, the responsibility to each other is more greater then when you are dating. Many people believe that life gets easier once you marry and everyone lives happily ever after. Well that is not the case. As time goes by married couples go through the duration-of-marriage-effect. The accumulation of over time of various factors, such as poor communication, unresolved conflicts, role overload, heavy work schedules, and child-rearing responsibilities, that negatively affect marital satisfaction. In my essay I will be providing five of the marital tasks that are related to the duration-of marriage-effect.
             The Duration-of-marriage-effect can be very detrimental to your relationship. Many people are unaware because of their daily busy schedules that this effect can be occurring in their marriage. There are several tasks that should be followed for newly wed couples so that they will not fall into the of the duration-of-marriage effect trap.
             One task that is extremely important in a marriage is developing communication skills. Communication is the most essential part of a marriage. In order for couples to survive they should be able to share intimate feelings and ideas with each other. learn how to talk to each other about difficulties, share moments of joy and pain, establish communication rules, and learn how to negotiate differences to enhance the marriage
             Another important task would be to Establish marital and family roles. In the beginning you should discuss what marital-role expectations for yourself and your partner, make appropriate adjustments to fit each other's needs and the needs of the marriage, discuss childbearing issues, and negotiate parental roles and responsibilities. This task should be done immediately so as there will be little conflict in the household.
