Communication Through Movies

             Communication and the way we (society) communicate has changed throughout our history. Newspapers, magizines, T.V., radio, and most recently the internet all are very popular means of communication. Film is also used to convey messages and teach lessons to a generation that would rather watch a movie than read a book. Violence is one theme many artists/writers/directors use to get their point across, and/or teach us a history lesson so that this generation can learn from past mistakes.
             A great example of this is the film Saving Private Ryan .This movie gives a very accurate dipiciton of WWII and the violence it brougt to so many. In the opening scene boats carrying thousands of troops to the beaches for combate are being bombarded with gun fire, you can hear the bullets hittting he walls echoing sounds of a typewriter printing the daily news. As the gates lower exposing the young men to the gun fire the first wall of men are mowed down like grass, bodies floating like leaves in the water, men carrying wonded friends on their backs trying to find shelter where there is non is all too jaw dropping not to bring about some type of emotion. This is an overwhelming site of death and the reprecussions of war. Violent scenes like this show the harsh realities of war, and the atraucities that can come from narrowminded views of power hungry dictators. Anyone who sees the frequency and number of young lives lost cannot simply forget it. The first hand sight of combate and the courage it takes to go on enspires the viewer making he/she frown on war and the impact it can bring. The younger generations of today have not seen war like this, they see what CNN, and other news sources show, thus blinding us to the uglyness war can bring. Violence in movies like this is not censored for the T.V. viewer, it has a shock value that can only add to the message that the creator is trying to convey.
