If I were to refer back to my high school life, the first idea that came to mind would be the standardized tests that seemed never-ending. I was fortunate enough not having to take an exam to graduate from high school, but all of the freshmen in high school this year will need to. Even though I escaped the exit-exam, I still couldn¡t avoid some of the standardized tests during high school. Relying on statewide-standardized tests to determine the eligibility of a student to graduate is a reasonable solution. Of course no students like them, and there are advantages and disadvantages also, but it is the only ideal way.
             To start with my own opinion about the standardized tests, I would say that it is unfair but necessary. Its original use was to use random test questions to find out a student¡s true ability and knowledge. Some managed to do well, the good test takers, while others failed because they usually don¡t do well on tests. This is where some things may seem unfair to different people. But if we only relied on high school scores, it is not accurate either, because most high school classroom work is copying down what the teachers say and following the directions for homework, period.¡ Some students only do the homework, yet they don¡t learn anything, then what is the point of attending school? Passing high school has become an easy task if we do not develop a test where all students are tested on the same level, it is impossible that we can distinguish each student¡s true ability and know which one has fulfilled the duty as a student.
             One of the most significant advantages of an exit exam is that it allows the officials to see who has the capability of graduating high school. It also sets an understanding fact that if a student has a diploma, he/she has acquired certain skills; like a certificate, almost.
