herself for being "such a baby". She has an achieved status, but it became more important to her than anything else.
Lester, Carolyn's husband, was into his appearance of success in the beginning of the film. He went to work and put on a fake smile because it is routine for his everyday life. His life cycle had become a routine. When he realized that that wasn't what he wanted as his life, he breaks out of the habitual cycle he had created for himself. What he realized was that he was trying to be something he is not. This made him unhappy and so he took off his mask and began to explore things that made him happy and worked for him.
Angela is another character in this movie who is great for analyzing at a sociological level. She is so obsessed with the way people perceive her that she has become her mask to everyone, even those who she is "close" to. She makes everything in her life up, but this make believe life becomes reality for her. So real that the image she portrays is believed by those around her. She makes this life up for herself because she wants people to see her as different because she believes that "there is nothing worse than being normal". But this whole image of herself backfires because the impression she manages to depict makes people not like her as much. Angela was so fixated on appearing not ordinary that she didn't give a thought to who she really was.
