Sir William Thatcher, Antigone, and Seigfried are three important literary characters from three totally separate time periods. What is the commonality that bonds these people together?              Antigone and Sir William Thatcher were both overly excessive when it came to their ideals. Even though their ideals were different, Antigone believed she should not be treated differently because she was a woman, and that her brother should be buried. "You go on a fool's errand!" (Antigone 4) said her sister, but this did not change her beliefs. Thatcher believed he did not have to be a peasant all of his life. Both of these characters strongly believed they were right. They both stood fast at the face of danger to support their views. They had such strong egotism that they would not let anyone else tell them that they were wrong or listen to any conflicting opinions. Contrastingly, Antigone paid for her ideals with her life, and Sir Thatcher was rewarded by knighthood because of his.
             Sir William Thatcher and Seigfried had many similarities in respect to their tragic flaws. Another one of Thatcher's tragic flaws was his view of himself as invincible. Siegfried shared this as a significant flaw. They were so fulsome, that they thought they were invincible. Seigfried was so self-confidant, that he divulged his one weakness to a woman. This caused his downfall. Even though Thatcher was impaled at the end of the
             movie, it did not cause him to give up. He thought he was invincible, so he went into the joust without any armor and with a gaping hole in his chest. Even though he won, this was still a major flaw that both these characters shared.
