t erase a member from their team and send them home. No one ever knows what is going to happen and of course, there are great rewards for the remaining survivor.
             Another major reality show is Temptation Island, where four couples went to an island to be seduced by single men and women. The four couples were split up, with the men on one part of the island and the women on the other. They went on dates and tried to see if their current relationships were worth the time. They got to kick the singles off of the island that were not their types or that the four just did not like. By the end of the episodes they had to choose one single to go on their final dates and everyone else was to leave the island. The suspense built towards the end when the couples reunited and decided if they were right for each other or not. Well it ended up being a storybook ending with everyone living happily ever after.
             All of these shows are considered to be "reality," and they can lead to conflict and much more, which is what today's society craves for. They crave this because many viewers place themselves in the contestant's positions. Many home viewers want to see as much reality as possible and they are continually wanting more and more.
             The problem with reality-based television does not exist entirely with the characters within the show; it also exists in the audience that encourages it to continue. We are advocates to surveillance and the constant searching for realness. It is not good enough that humans live in reality; they want to see other's reality, which is why reality-based television has become so popular. People sit at home and "peer in at [lives], never stopping to consider their own complexity in the grand manipulation" (Gamson 458). Most home viewers don't realize that if it weren't for them then these reality shows wouldn't exist. Many also don't realize that they are invading ...
