             While Lolita is most influential on only Kubrick's own career, it is important to note this piece as the true starting place for Kubrick's body of work. This was the first title he had ever selected himself after having some fame, but more importantly the first project he ever chose while having the budget and actors necessary for a professional quality film. Therefore, it is only fitting that his first venture as an established director should be rapped in controversy. In fact, Lolita had to be reedited several times to appease the Catholic Church who had banned the original cut of the movie. After all the evil frames had hit the editing-room floor, Lolita was finally released. Perhaps, it was the success of the Kubrick's first controversial film that encouraged him (or more likely his producer James Harris) to take the satirical road with his next film.
