             The ocean is a wonderful and powerful thing. The force of the ocean has been known to erode sand dunes, crush cars, and even demolish buildings, yet it is home to countless sea-life and a popular attraction for hundreds of millions of people every year. Having something this powerful and popular, it was inevitable that an "Extreme Sport" was spawned.
             Surfing isn't the easiest sport out there, but in the same respect, isn't the hardest either. First things first, the board: when first starting out, you want a long board because it will be easier to get up and balance on. A board like this is between seven feet and twelve feel in length (an eight to eight and a half foot board is generally an ideal size. Next you'll need wax. Wax is important because it will keep your board under you feet for the most part (surf wax was created to make your board "tacky" so it wouldn't slip out from under you every time it got wet). There are a variety of brands out there, just pick out your favorite, I personally use "Sex Wax" or "Sticky Bumps", these will both get the job done. Then you will need a leash. This device is to keep your board from getting away from you when you fall. It attaches to your ankle, and the other end to the tail of the board. Lastly, you of coarse will need and swimsuit, once again, any kind will do, which ever you prefer.
             Now, on to the actual surfing part of surfing. You'll need to got to a beach that has somewhat of a wave (preferably more than two feet), they don't have to be huge, but the bigger the better. To start off with, you'll want to lie on your stomach, face down, and paddle out, past the first the first set of "breakers" (waves), these are usually smaller, the set after those is the one you want to paddle out to.
