ng the course of their lives, humans have developed three fundamental problems that they must escape in order to experience Ultimate Reality. They must overcome the ignorance in their minds, their selfish desires and their arrogant egos.
             Ignorance in an individual is a hindrance because it conceals the substratum of the world and makes it appear to be something it is not, it gives us illusions. Disguise and deformation are the results of ignorance and illusion. Man is finite because he lives in a world that makes sense to him, a world as he knows it. This world is not real but relative only to human existence. It is maya that develops ignorance in people and friction in the deepest part of our beings. The common world is made up of material things; people value such things as families, friends, houses and jobs, however, they are merely decoration. The challenge lies in realizing the other part of this dualistic world. The human mind has accepted this illusionary realm as the norm, once it looses this innate ignorance and begins to develop knowledge of the Real world, it is on the path towards Ultimate Reality.
             Just as there exists a dualistic world, there also exists a dualistic human; Hindus believe that each human has two selves, the ego-self and Atman. The ego-self resides in the illusionary world and fixates on the physical body while Atman is associated with the Real world, that is, Ultimate Reality. Most individuals identify themselves with their egoistic counterparts. This is wrong. These people will experience themselves to be different from Ultimate Reality, they will live in the illusionary, material world and will fulfill their actions in arrogance. They will act only to their benefit and in return will gain nothing in life and continue in the cycle of samsara (re-birth).
