Hamlet

             In many works of literature a character gives a statement that relates to another characters condition. In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the ghost gives Hamlet a statement that relates to Hamlets condition. " Let not the royal bed of Denmark be a couch for luxury and damned incest." This statement of advice causes Hamlet to believe that Claudius was the reason for his father's death more than he did before. In the play, Hamlet is a tragic hero who experiences a fall from greatness. Shakespeare uses the ghost's statement to show the reader that Claudius is performing lust and incest in the royal bed of Denmark.
             The ghost's statement relates to Hamlets condition in believing that Claudius is committing incest in the royal bed of Denmark. " Let not the royal bed of Denmark be a couch for luxury and damned incest." The ghost is reassuring Hamlet that he is correct in believing that Claudius is corrupting Denmark. This makes Hamlet more aware of the fact that Claudius is performing lust and incest and disrespecting old king Hamlet. Hamlet compared his father to Claudius calling him a Hyperion to a satyr. He compared his father to a sun g-d and Claudius to a goat like satyr. Claudius does not care for his nation like old king Hamlet once did. It is an insult to Hamlet that Claudius drinks and performs incest in what used to be his father's royal bed. Claudius turned the royal bed of Denmark into a "couch of luxury and damned incest." Hamlet is correct in believing that Claudius killed old king Hamlet because Claudius is disrespecting Hamlet as well as Hamlet's father by marrying Gertrude and then committing lust and incest.
             The ghost's statement forces Hamlet on his quest to find the person who killed old King Hamlet, his father. Claudius is not taking responsibility as king of Denmark. Old King Hamlet cared for his nation, however Claudius abuses ...
