The Palatin: This Folktale was about a ship off the shores of Rhode Island. The ship was carrying passengers and cargo to the state, when it hit rough weather. When the storm had died out the passengers had realized that the crew had murdered the captain, and were holding them hostage. For days, they charged the hostages high amounts for food and necessities. One day the passengers woke up to find that all of their belongings had been stolen and the crew was gone. So not knowing what else to do they decided to paddle back to shore and burn the ship so it wouldn't crash into another ship in its path. As they were paddling away from the burning ship, they hear the screaming of a woman, who had apparently been left on the ship. Until this day they say if you look off the shores of Rhode Island, you see a ship appear then catch on fire and disappear.
Wait Until Emmit Comes: A preacher was on his way home, when darkness settled so he decided that he would stay the night in an old mansion that was presumed haunted. However, he believed God would be him so he did not worry about it. Therefore, when he got in he set up the fireplace and sat down. As he was reading his Bible, he saw several cats come up to him all at different times. They would play with the fire then come up to him and say something to the effect of "Wait Until Emmit Comes". Finally, after several times of this occurrence, the preacher finally got up and said good night to the cats and to tell "Emmit" he was there but decided to leave.
Coyote and The Colombia: Coyote was very hot one day – so he asked for clouds. That wasn't good enough so he asked for more shade, then rain and then a river to put his feet into. Then he asked for deeper river, and the river got even bigger and began swirling. This is how the Colombia River began.
The First Tears: An Eskimo man was hunting for seals for dinner.
