Globalization

Globalization reflects the growing interdependence of markets, economies and organizations across national boundaries (Herbert, 2000). In order to succeed in a rapidly evolving global market, it is essential that an organization respond to such changes at the speed of light. When strategically positioning itself within the global marketplace, an organization must consider the significant factors that influence of globalization. Such factors include economic, financial, political, and sociocultural changes which create new market standards for competition, productivity, quality, variety, customization, convenience and timeless (Kerka,1993). These standards were strengthened with the innovative development in information technology, such as the Internet or dominance of the Microsoft operating system program Windows which bringing uniformity between computers thousand of miles apart (Herbert, 2000).
With these ideas in mind, comes the story of an insurance company formed in the Spring of 1882. Chubb & Son began insuring ships and cargoes in the seaport district of New York City. With great success, Chubb & Son grew strong within the domestic insurance market. Subsequent to this great success, the Chubb Corporation ("Chubbâ€") was formed in 1967 and was then listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1984.
A little more than a decade ago, Chubb noted that more of its customers were expanding into international markets, including many of its mid-sized companies that make up Chubb's commercial customer base. This observation led Chubb into accelerating its own program of global expansion (O'Hare, 1998). Chubb currently employees 10,000 individuals throughout North America, Europe, South America, and the Pacific Rim serving property and casualty customers from more than 132 offices in 33 countries. Chubb also works closely with 5,000 independent agents and brokers worldwide (Chubb History, www.chubb.com/aboutchubb...
