I attended the extra credit assignment on November 13th which was a discussion between two professors on the issue ofHas America ever been a Christian Nation?? The way that the discussion was set up was that Robert the first professor came to stage and spoke about his ideas and research about the question, then Mark Nole the other professor responded to Roberts's first discussion followed by Mike Noles opinion on the topic. Finally after that Robert came back up to stage and responded to Mike's opinion.
             To be quite honest Robert was a very difficult speaker to listen to and understand but what I got out from his speech was that he did not believe that America has ever really been aChristian Nation.? In the 19th century there was a divint land set apart by god, it had a divinely ordain uniqueness. He stated that God must have intervened when Europeans were first encountered with Americas. God marked people as his nation, only one nation has enjoyed unique divine ordain and that is Israel. In his discussion Robert focused on God and how God sought and created the earth the way it was, not specifically aChristian Nation.? Although the nation has been of great success, it also has been a perpetuator of great evil. Special acts created/sanctioned in the 19th century such as racism, lynching, again he focuses on Gods part in creation. He backed up his argument with 5 main points as to why the nation wasn't a Christian nation specifically in the 19th century. I was confused at some point though because I felt he contradicted himself, so I I took his whole perspective the wrong way its because I was a little confused as to where he was going with his evidence.
             Mark Nole was the second professor to speak and he said it was extremely dubious to suggest that in the 19th century any nation was a Christian Nation. He pointed out that the reason that there were so many religions active in the 19th century didn't suggest America...
