Globalization, the process of integrating various parts of the world, has many supporters and many who oppose it. Groups have been developed to aid other, poorer countries and regions to regain strength and bring them up to the current standing of the modern day world. The supporters, such as the O.E.C.D. who developed seven goals to achieve for the world, are just one of many. They feel that these poorer countries are in need of help from the more, well off regions of the world. The development of materials and technology is crucial to the advancement of these countries. Raising the education level, eliminating gender inequalities, and affirmative action are just some of the major points that these groups feel need to be achieved. They believe that these aspects can lead to the globalization of the world, and upgrade poorer countries to a more current, modernized status.
Of course, there are some of those who oppose such movements. Certain elitists do not want to see poorer countries doing well. They are the ones who abuse these countries for their cheap labor and supplies. Known as colonialism, these groups want to keep these countries in a subordinate position in order to make themselves richer for less. Colonialism is a common issue today; using poorer nations to produce their goods or get supplies for a cheap price. Those who oppose globalization believe that it will ruin their stranglehold on these countries and create a partnership between rich and poor, of which they do not want.
These two groups, who oppose and support globalization, clash over this topic; one wants to control the poor countries and regions while the other wants to aid them in the development of modernization. One thing is for sure; the evolution of development will never cease and therefore must become acknowledged throughout the world.
