The Great Gatsby

             The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F Scott Fitzgerald. Nick is the narrator he was going out with Jordan Baker. Nick has cousin named Daisy who is married to Tom. Gatsby lived next to Nick and loved Daisy. Nicks last words to Gatsby before he died was "they're a rotten crowd... you're worth the whole damn bunch put together" (Fitzgerald 162). He means that Gatsby was a lot better that Tom, Daisy, and Jordan.
             Gatsby is better that Jordan because she is dishonest. "She left a borrowed car out in the rain with the top down, and then lied about it" (Fitzgerald 62). Once at a golf tournament she "moved her ball from a bad lie in the semi-final round" (Fitzgerald 62). Gatsby was dishonest when he said he was an Oxford man when all he really did was "despising...janitor work" (Fitzgerald 105) but his lies never hurt anyone.
             Tom is unfaithful to Daisy and that makes Gatsby better than him. During a dinner at Daisy's house Jordan says, "Tom's got some woman in New York" (Fitzgerald 19). Tom and Nick go to the valley of ashes and Tom tells him that he wants him to "meet his girl" (Fitzgerald 28). Gatsby wasn't ever unfaithful to Daisy, he never had a girl "[swoon] backward on [him] and no French bob touched [his shoulder]" (Fitzgerald 55) even after Daisy got married.
             Gatsby is better than Daisy because she is a coward. Nick asked Gatsby if Daisy was driving when Myrtle was hit, Gatsby said yes "but of course I'll say I was" (Fitzgerald 151). If Daisy were not so afraid, she would admit that she was driving. Whenever one was in the hotel Daisy was too afraid to tell Gatsby right away that she loved Tom also but later she said that she "did love him once" (Fitzgerald 140).
