             Melville was given this biased documentation of the actual events, however he also elaborated even further upon those. He took the already tainted words of the court transcription and added more elaborations to them. On the subject of Melville's embellishments Allan Moore Emery wrote, "Melville found many proofs of black 'violence and hostility'-and few signs of Negro 'gentleness'-in Almasa Delano's Narrative of Voyages and Travels (1817).
