In today's society the contemporary media is always quick to stereotype culture. In almost ever case, all movies depict how a certain group of people act in the world. I find that most of the time; the movies are very inaccurate.
             While thinking of examples of how the media does this I am quickly reminded of the movie A Walk to Remember. In this movie the contemporary media depicts how a Christian teenager acts in the modern day world. Mandy Moore plays the role of a beautiful Christian girl that is the daughter of a preacher. Throughout the movie it shows how she is unable to fit in with all the other kids because she is a Christian. The movie makes it look like because she is a Christian that this automatically makes her a nerd.
             This type of stereotyping is what really makes me frustrated. I think that it is totally inaccurate that because of someone's Christian beliefs that this automatically makes them un-cool or a nerd. I believe that all of those who are Christians are actually the exact opposite of what this movie describes. I know that I am a Christian and others in my High School were aware of that, but I was never seen as a nerd because of my beliefs.
             Another way I think the contemporary media critiques culture in the movies is by stereotyping a certain race. In movies today the color of your skin decides what type of role you will play. I think this is extremely degrading and offensive to people of certain race groups. Just because someone from a race group has done something it doesn't mean all members of that race are the exact same way. I pray that things will change and people would stop being so judgmental.
