Characters are fictional representations of real people. In litterature, different cahracters react with each other in different ways. In Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, there are several characters that react in different ways according to the events that occur during ht novel.
             One main character of the book is Roxanne Coss. Roxanne is a famous opera singer from Chicago that was paid to sing at a dinner party in honor of Mr. Hosokawa, a Japanese business man. The people were lead to believe that he was going to make a big business deal with the host country. Roxanne was a dynamic character in this novel. She changed in many ways throughout the book. At the beginning of the novel, she wasn't really spoken to. She was mostly being protected by her accompantist the entire time. When her accompanist died, Roxanne had to take on a new perspective and was almost forced to talk to the other people there; otherwise, she would be all alone. She faced a language barrier, but fortunately there was, Gen, a traslator there to help her along the way. Another obstacle she had to overcome was that she was the only woman kept behind when the terrorists let people go the next morning. I relate to this character because i have had to deal with being the only woman in a group of all male friends. I have empathy for the character in a sense because I know the feeling of having to be able to communicate and understand with all the male sex.
             Another main character is Mr. Hosokawa. Mr. Hosokawa is a very important stock man in Japan. The people of a poor South American country invited him to a bithday dinner partyin his honor in hopes of him starting business deals with him in their country. Mr. Hosokawa had no intentions of making a deal with the people, instead, he had only come to the affair to see his favorite sopprano, Roxanne Coss, sing for him.Mr. Hosokawa was very professional and would give Miss Coss things if she needed them while in captivation (...
