John Kitto states "God at length made known to his servant Noah of his awful determination of involving them, and the earth they inhabited, in one general destruction, by a flood of water" (Kitto 80). The Lord chose because he was a righteous man whom praised the Lord Almighty. Noah was a father of three sons and a firm believer and follower of the Lord. God found Noah and spoke to him of the actions that were to take place. God told Noah of his plan to destroy all mankind because of the actions that occur because of them. God tells Noah make himself and ark of outstanding proportions. The enormous ark was to be made of cypress wood and it was to be coated in pitch. The ark was to be "four hundred and fifty feet long, seventy five feet wide and forty five feet high"(Genesis 6:15). The ark was to consist of three levels; a lower, a middle, and an upper deck. Completed with a door in the side and a roof on top, Noah finished the ark to the specifications ordered by God. Noah followed God's specifications exactly in his building of the ark.
