1855 Grover goes back to Buffalo to persue his law career and was appointed clerk in law firm of Rogers, Bowen ,Rogers. He often went out to drink at this time and was known as big Steve do to the weight he gained since he had gotten there. in 1859 he is admitted to the New York State bar for his license to be a lawyer and passes. After serving 7 years at Rogers, Bowen ,Rogers he is elected ward supervisor in 1862 and the following year to the Erie county district attorney and serves two years.
