I could go to jail up to 30 years if caught with it. It is the third most used substance in America, and the number one used illegal drug in the US, it also estimated that one in three American citizens have tried it. Around 47% of US high school students use or experimented with it. I for one think it cannabis should legalized in the US.
Violence associated with marijuana would be lower by legalizing it. For one most of the drug dealers would be out of business and off our streets, and there would be less fights on the streets about marijuana. There would be no more car chases because the driver had a dime bag in his or her pocket.
Marijuana is harmless compared to tobacco or alcohol.
85% people smoke tobacco than people who smoke weed, and tobacco causes more health problems. There are also 60% more DUI arrest for alcohol than marijuana. In addition there are 10 times more car wrecks from drinking than smoking. Smoking cannabis also does not cause as many long term effects as tobacco or drinking might.
Cannabis is also not as addictive as one might think. Emergency rooms are not flooded with marijuana users, and there has never been a case were someone died of a marijuana over dose.
It has also never been proven that millions of people can not stay off of weed or that it will totally disrupt their lives with out it. There has also been test where only 10% of people who tried marijuana still do it.
I think over all legalizing cannabis will be beneficial to our society, and one day our government might seriously think into it.
