The researcher will discuss different effects the abuse has on children and will discuss the amount and types of abuse they experience as adults (whether they are the abuser or they are being abused).              This paper will look at literature in the area of domestic violence as written by other various authors. It will then look at the methods of studying domestic violence that other researchers have used, as well as the methods the researcher plans on implementing within the research. The paper finishes by explaining what societal implications the research could possibly have.
             Consistent throughout the studies reviewed, "experiencing or witnessing violence in one's family of origin increases the likelihood of experiencing violence in one's future intimate relationships" (Kwong et al. 288). While most of the researchers looked at exposure to domestic violence, they also looked at whether or not a child was a victim of abuse. Most included other risk factors, such as alcohol and drug use, childhood neglect, and overall ability to control aggression. While studies varied on risk factors, the one risk factor accepted by most was the exposure to domestic violence. "Thus, exposure to violence between parents, which probably begins when a child is young, seems to pose the greatest risk for being the victim of any act of partner violence" (Ehrensaft et al. 2003: 749).
