Abortion

            ABORTION! The most controversial and talked about topic in the United States today is once again stirring up a heated debate not only on the national level, but also in our classroom. The purpose of this paper was by my understanding to portray both the pro-choice and pro-life views in an unbiased manner. For me, that seems like an almost impossible task because it seems so crystal clear that there are too many fallacies with the pro-choice cause. Nonetheless, a few seemingly legitimate arguments will be portrayed, but even those will soon be countered.
             Do you consider something with a beating heart a living creature? A baby's heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy, therefore, that aspect alone would make abortion murder correct? The baby within the womb of the mother depends on her much like it does from the moment it physically enters the outside world. With that in mind, to end such life and to destroy such a dependent bond between mother and child means doing nothing more than murdering an innocent victim. A pro-choice supporter would say that the decision is up to the woman, but the person with the pro-life theory would say that it is murder no matter what the situation. Would you consider it murder to kill a baby the day after it is born? Then why would it not be murder to kill it the day before it is born? There was a situation last year, around this exact time when teenage girls our own age were getting ready for proms, and other such dances. It so happened that at a prom in Southeastern Massachusetts, a pregnant teenage mother gave birth to her baby boy in the bathroom at the dance hall. That mother chose not to abort that baby, but rather threw it in the trash can leaving it to die. That mother, once discovered, was charged with neglect, and a load of other charges. Had the baby died, that scared, nervous, foolish young mother would have been charged with not only neglect, but with murder. Can one ...
