Comparing Leo Buscaglia

             The central focus of this comparative analysis paper will be on three different authors. While all three of these authors are different in their perceptions and ideas they are also very much alike in many ways. The authors that I'm referring to are Jose Ortega Y Gasset, Martin Buber, and Leo Buscaglia. The unique way in which all three of these authors are tied together is through there love of dialogical communication. Each author with a different approach in dialogical communication also has different views of the world and its people. To completely analyze and compare these three authors, I feel that I must first shed some light on each author as a person and there views in the study of communication.
             Jose Ortega Y Gasset, whom I will refer to as "Ortega", was born in 1883 in Madrid, Spain. Out of all three authors, Ortega is probably the foremost leader in the art and study of philosophy. I also feel that he is the most misunderstood of the three. His writings take a discipline from the reader that is unmatched. This discipline that is needed from the reader is one that requires an absolute open mind and unbiased approach.
             Martin Buber, born in 1878 in what is now known as the Soviet Union was also a scholar in philosophy. Buber and Ortega share a common bond in that they both grew up in the same time period and were both from Europe. Buber's main focus of study was on the subject of the "interhuman". Buber believes that each of us lives two separate lives, what he describes as the "two folds" One fold is made up of our interaction with objects, and the other fold occurs when we become fully human persons in genuine relationships with others (Buber, pg. 446). Our third author, Leo Buscaglia has another unique approach to the study of dialogical communication.
