             Armenians have been conquered and ruled by a list of powers throughout their history, obtaining ever so often independence. The first empire to gain power over the Armenians was ruled by the kingdom or Urartu, with their first king being Arame. During this time Armenians had been name "the people of Nairi". From approximately 860 BC to around 590 BC Urartu ruled the Armenian people.
