             Signs and Symptoms of Child Molestation
             There are many different signs and symptoms of child molestation indicated by both the perpetrator and the victim. Often the sexual offenders are not recognized initially, because the child molester exhibits apparently good intentions of service for children. Children victimized by child molestation are often observed as rebellious and hard to manage, leading teachers and caregivers to misdiagnose the underlying causes for this behavior. True understanding of the signs and symptoms of child molestation will eliminate misunderstanding of the molester and the child victim. (Herek, 2002)
             Child molesters frequently demonstrate these characteristics which are not a definite sign of a person being a sex offender, but these traits should raise suspicion.
             Adults who seem preoccupied with children
             Single adults who work or volunteer with children's clubs/activities
             Adults who work with children and frequently spend their free time doing "special" things with kids
             Adults who spend time volunteering with youth groups who do not have children in those groups
