Medea, a play by the greek playwright Euripides, explores the Greek-Barbarian dichotomy through the character of Medea. She is a princess from barbarian, or non-Greek, land of Colchis. Throughout the Play, it becomes evident to the reader that Medea is no ordinary woman by Greek standarts. In this paper, I am attempting to show that is an evil, self-serving, obsessed woman with huge ego and little consideration for the life of others. She is "The end justifies the means" type of person and being driven by revenge she will do whatever it takes to satisfy her blind vengeance, even through the murder of her own children. Also, in relation to this Play, I would like this essay serve as an example of how a huge ege and uncontrolled desire for revenge can do a great harm to the individual and society. I will also attempt to cast a linee that relates that culture to modern culture.
