Telvison and Violence

             The media contrubuts to stereotypes and some where down the line stereotypes became entertainment. There is violence on television today, and most of it is stereotypical. The media is not only television it can be newspapers, magiziens and periodicals. Entertainment is also a wide industry. And stereotypes lava of ignorance. Before I continue let me give you the definition of sterotype. A stereotype is a conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image, and television is filled with them. We see violence in every aspect of television from TV series, commercials and most especially the news. And most of them are stereotypical, you see Mexicans selling oranges or a loud overly excited black person, or even the dizzy white women. Yes these things are funny and entertaining but they are also dulling and demeaning.
             While watching television you can find at least five television series that are violent in nature. For instance you have "Americas Most Wanted", "Americas Wildest Police Chases", "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", "Angel", "Walker – Texas Ranger"; and these are just local television I wont bother to mention what cable television has become. Lately television has taken on a new image, one of violence where action series filled with murder, blood and gunshots. Is this good? Yes, good for the network but bad for the viewing population.
             Another way we see violence on TV is commercials. Sometimes it's the violent images of the newest action flick or the cartoon super hero with the biggest gun, but more so it's the violent language. A roach commercial kills and destroys, the super hero smashes shoots, and eliminates. Kids shows like power rangers glorify violence.
