John Merrick, also known as "the elephant man", was a person who was born as an outcast of society. Born with a terrible condition, called proteus syndrome, which causes overgrowth of bone and other tissue, he was labeled as a "freak" in a circus sideshow. In addition, he was frequently tormented by others and was cursed by nightmares of his mother. It was not until the good doctor Treves entered John's life, that Merrick began to experience a "normal" life. Dr. Treves is a good doctor, first of, because he is a good person with a good heart.
             Dr. Treves first met John at the circus sideshow. What he saw was a man who was suffering from bronchitis, along with cruelty. He had been beaten and ridiculed by the man who claimed to "own" John. Mr Bytes treated John like an animal, rather than a human being. What Dr. Treves saw right from the star was a human being not "the elephant man". This shows that doctor Treves' good heart, along with his humanitarian style of being was just the beginning to John's new life. Dr. Treves found a person in need and offered to help and take him away from Mr. Bytes and the rest of the ignorant people that interacted with John.
             Dr. Treves took it upon himself to make sure that John had the best life ever and he gave him a home at the London Hospital. Mr. Treves' intentions were none other than to help bring back life into John Merrick, which was taken away from him. In the process, using his knowledge and expertise as a doctor, he and his medical team would try to find a cure for this rare disease. At first, the hospital staff was shocked at John's appearance, but once they got to know him, they knew he was a beautiful and intelligent human being. Mr. Treves came to find that John was a brilliant man, who although shy at first, did know how to speak and was very optimistic and at peace with himself. John did not blam
