To fully understand why Thelma and Louise committed these crimes we must look more in detail to the studies of deviant behavior and why exactly people commit crimes and what is the force that drives them to. One of the main reasons that these women were driven to deviant behavior is the pressures of society and the societal goals that are sometimes unattainable.
According to Robert K. Merton's Anomie theory there are two elements of social and cultural structure that play a part in leading to deviant behavior. "The first consists of culturally defined goals purposes and interests......These goals are more or less integrated and involve varying degrees of prestige and sentiment.
