2004 Election Analysis (Bush -v- Kerry)

             This year's election is according to many people, is the most important and historical election thus far. From our country going to war to people's rights being challenged, electing the right man as President of the United States is a struggle for American citizens. This is because each candidate has different but like viewpoints on many issues.
             George W. Bush (R) was sworn in as the 43rd President of the United States on January 20, 2001. President Bush received a bachelor's degree in 1968 from Yale, and then served as an f-102 fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard. In 1975, President Bush received a Master of Business Administration from Harvard. He then was managing general partner of the Texas Rangers until he was Governor for six years. He then became the first Governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms. (whitehouse.com)
             John F. Kerry (D) learned a lot from his father who was in the Army Air Corps. While he was attending Yale, Kerry served in Vietnam. Kerry served two tours of duty. In his service, Kerry was awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. After graduating from Boston College Law School in 1976, John became a prosecutor in Massachusetts. In 1982, Kerry was elected Lieutenant Governor. In 1984, he was elected to the Senate and he is now serving his fourth term. (johnkerry.com)
             Facts aside, the candidates contrast on many things. However, one thing is clear, both have strengths and weaknesses. Because Bush has been president for almost one term, he stands clear on his issues, while Kerry can "flip-flop" on certain issues. Kerry thinks and talks thoroughly while Bush on the other hand stumbles and offers simple answers. Bush can be too smug and too cocky to admit his faults but Kerry can be a little too optimistic instead of being open to reality. (guardian.co.uk)
