with knowledge. This system sees the teacher as the master and the students as objects. It teaches
acceptance of the teacher's word as absolute and creates adaptability, setting the students up to
become the perfect working class. The Ontario school system works in this fashion and I can say
that I am a product of the system. I was always encouraged to accept what the teacher was saying
as truth, and that is still true today. Despite the claims of teachers, critical thought is not
encouraged. The teacher speaks while the students listen, and the teacher sets the curriculum,
forcing the students to adapt to it. The banking system oppresses the students taking away their
initiative and creativity. It refuses to teach them to think for themselves, making it less likely
they will ever realize they can make a difference. If they never realize they deserve better, they
will never revolt. Freire proposes a new form of education, one of equality and equal learning.
His idea revolves around the leveling of the playing field; the teacher is also the student, while
