             Now, about the way that Natural Law came about in the colonies, you see, it all started in Germany with Martin Luther, who was a Catholic Priest in Germany in 1517. All of Germany was Catholic and had always been Catholic. It was believed that there was a mediator between Heaven and Hell called purgatory. They thought that in Purgatory you had to work off all of the sins you committed on Earth. It was also true that in Catholicism, they had always taught their sermons in Latin, and this had worked for hundreds of years, but around the time which we are addressing, the people no longer spoke or understood Latin. They had their own language. Now, the Catholic Church was not poor, but still, several catholic priests in Germany decided to get together and take advantage of the people in order to gain lots of money for the church. They decided to use not only the fact that people believed in purgatory, but also that fact that the Bible was only published in Latin and not in the common tongue. Therefore no one could disagree with anything they said. By creating things they called indulgences, which were actually little pieces of paper that stated that someone didn't have to go to purgatory. They began to preach about and sell these so called "indulgences" and gained quite a lot of money off or the whole deal.
             Well, Martin Luther was a priest in Germany who, when he got wind of these so called "indulgences", became very angered and wrote up 98 theses on why the church was wrong to do this and how they should not have used the people's ignorance to gain a profit in the form of money.
