The Abuse of Prescribed Amphetamines
             One controversial subject that effects Americans is the use and abuse of prescribed amphetamines. For example, drugs like Ritalin and Adderol. These drugs are prescribed to people to help them concentrate and focus in order to help them complete their daily tasks. In this debate I hope to discuss how these drugs are abused by Americans.
             These drugs are intended for people diagnosed with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder), and other conditions similar to those above. These disorders are diagnosed to people who have trouble concentrating and are too hyperactive in school. But evidently, it isn't difficult for children to be diagnosed with these disorders. In fact, parents are allowing their children to be diagnosed earlier and earlier in life. This allows children to use amphetamines as a crutch in school work and to become dependent on them so it that it's hard to concentrate without it at an early age.
             Another point is that there is such a demand on the black market for these drugs. People will get their prescriptions and sell them to people who are not diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. This permits these controlled drugs to make people who aren't diagnosed with these disorders dependent upon them.
             My third point is that many people purposely abuse amphetamines my grinding them up and snorting them. This gives the abuser a sensation similar to cocaine or speed. Also, people will often take amphetamines with alcohol to allow them to drink longer than if they weren't on them. These are two major reasons why these substances are controlled.
             In these three reasons I hope that I have proven that the use and abuse of amphetamines is getting out of hand. Whether it be an elementary student becoming dependent on drugs, a college student selling his prescribed medication, or a drug fiend grinding up a Ritalin and snort...
