By making a surplus of money, they create cash flow, which, many times, is reinvested into the community, if not directly, then through a trickle down effect. For instance, people and businesses that have a lot of money usually put it into a bank, which can then be lent by that bank to other people who wish to by a house, who, when buying a house, support the local contracting organizations, so on and so forth. So, most people would probably agree, that it is good for a business to maximize profit; however, is maximizing profit the greatest good? I think not.
