An example of discrimination is given by James Waller in his book Face to Face. He states that African Americans in the criminal justice system are more prone than whites to be barred from juries, to be given harsher sentencing, to serve longer in prison, and to be sentenced to death (36). Clearly, our most significant social problems occur when our stereotypical beliefs and prejudicial attitudes are translated into behavior.
             The plans of the civil rights victories that would end racial injustice have been crushed in the past twenty years due to powerful racial transformations. Now the United States is faced with several new racial problems.
