the European continent. The war that started off on the North American continent saw the British pitted against the French, the Austrians, and the Spanish. This war raged across the globe in many part of the world.
             The conflict represented a part of a larger ongoing rivalry between Great Britain allied with Russia and France allied with Austria and Spanish. This rivalry involved trading and colonial empires in North America, West Indies, Africa and India.
             At that time, France was interested in maintaining and expanding "a vast trading system that sent flotillas of fur-laden canoes down the St. Lawrence River" in order to strengthen their position in the world. They took Indian wives and were only interested in the land under their forts. But the British were interested in total colonization and the prevention of French expansion, especially in territories claimed by the English crown.
             The conflict between the British and the French was struck when the French began to build a chain of forts from the St. Lawrence River to the Mississippi River, in which the English crown claimed those regions.
             From 1689 to 1763, the French and English were in a quite series of wars over the control of territories in Europe and elsewhere in the world. These battles continued over the control of the New World Territories. During these times, the English won the trust of the Iroquois Indians that had pledged their allegiance to Queen Anne in 1710. Along with the Upper New York Territories, the Indians clearly favored the British also.
             The American colonies and the French were allied with the Stockbridge Indians of western Massachusetts. In due time, more Indians joined with the colonists and French because the French signed a treaty and traded with the Indians. Eventually aid came from Cherokees, Choctaws, and Catawbas as well, both as scouts and as soldiers.
