the steam train welcomed many new immigrants to the west. As a result of this entire disregard for nature future generations have had to deal with changing old myths and ideas, and correcting the violations committed against nature herself. In the years to follow a new line of thinking was birthed called conservationism. Conservationism was basically an idea that mans imprint on nature affected it as much as nature itself. This new line of thinking called for the preservation of lands in the west like Yellowstone and Yosemite. This Conservation approach however did not call for a total hand off approach to these lands, which led to another approach to the preserving of nature known as Preservationists. Preservationists were led by people like John Muir. This progressive era in America was marked mainly by a concerted effort to conserve nature. In subsequent years America would experience a depression and world war which would set back any movement to conserve nature. It would be the late 20th century which would see the rebirth of environmentalism, and strict policies on the private sector to clean up the environment.
