The articles chosen for this assignment have been written to inform the U.S. citizens that
there is an aviation-security bill being debated. The aviation-security bill would help to
ensure a persons safety while at the airport and in the air. The bill would change the way
airport security would be ran. It would be ran by the federal government. Backgrounds
would be checked of all baggage screeners, intense training, and they would get a better
pay since they would get a federal paycheck. The articles state the debating arguments
and alternate solutions.
In the article from L.A. Weekly it shows the opposing sides of the issue. Using the
opinions of several different Republican's views, including Senator Phil Gramm, shows
how making airport security a federal problem will not help with our societies safety.
Their view on stopping terrorism is by stopping the terrorists. They feel that the problem
of our safety will not be solved till we stop the terrorists.

security. The side in favor of the bill shows many ways in which the increased security can
be used in our favor. One of the ways to improve, so that not all baggage screeners were
all federal paid employees, is that there is just one federal manager present at each station
and the rest are privately contracted. With doing that it would make it easier to just have
only a select few be a part of the federal government that is protecting our airlines.
The articles clearly state the reason of such a measure is being offered to Congress.
The terrorists' attacks have affected the U.S. to make such decisions of increasing security
and safety of its citizens. The L.A. Weekly article mainly states just the opinions of
several government officials of why we should or not have bill passed...
