You have a sixteen year old son, he never comes home extraordinarily late, so there has never been a reason to give him a limitation. He has had his license for about 3 months now, and one night he goes out for a couple hours. Those couple hours go by and he isn't home yet; not a big deal right? Two more hours go by and it is now 2:33 in the morning. As a parent, you are worried if he has been in an accident, if he is lost, or if something else horrible has happened to him. This is what parents go through everyday. Throughout our society children are getting less and less restrictions to what they can and can't do, a major one of these being curfew.
             As stated earlier, children from five to seventeen are getting more and more "freedom", so to speak. Meaning, that as children get their way more and more, they tend to not worry as much about the outcome. This ties into a more common problem, called discipline. Children need certain limitations on what they can and can't do, and as a child gets to the age of about 12 or 13 there is a curfew that should be set. For children this age there is not usually any kind of disagreement. Considering to them it means that their friend's mom or dad has to bring them home by 9:30.
             As a child gets to be older though, many times the "curfew" is used less and less, or at least followed through less and less. Seven in every ten teenagers do not have an enforced curfew. It is natural for a teenager, once they get their license to stay out a little later. Many times this is not the child's fault. More times than none parents feel that there child will be home before a certain time, because there is a city and state curfew, which will be talked about later on.
