Surviving

"Only the most fit and strongest survive." I have lived by this since I can remember. No experience has confirmed this statement more than my journey through high school. High school has taught me that you have to be determined to make it in life.
When I started high school, I immediately stood out because I was short. In order not to get bullied by the other students, I had to come off as this little kid with heart. Though I never liked fighting, I had to stand up for myself. I had to survive. By sophomore year, I had become somewhat infamous for my hot temper. I was mainly, however, known as the nice guy. I was the one that would help someone in need. I just did it because people did it for me. I felt that if God blessed me, I should be a blessing to those who need it. However, like many young people starting high school there were problems. My grades were not up to par. I was having my home situations with my parents. I had the kind of problems that come with growing up as a young man. I was dealing with the girls and peer pressure. I had to stay determined and survive through my problems to become stronger.
Though I mark my junior year as my favorite year, it was also my hardest. At this time, my parents were having serious problems. My stepfather, being a recruiter, was not home for nights at a time. This started to make my mother have suspicions. They argued so much, my stepfather eventually moved out for a few months. My mother was angry sometimes, sad other times. I tried to comfort her, but she didn't want me to worry. However, I had to help her survive through her time. As I helped her, I began to put my life in perspective. I left behind the immature actions of my past two high school years and became more responsible. I calmed down a lot that year. I started to care more about how my decisions affected my parents and my siblings. It was also at this time that I got serious about my music.
