60's protest

             The sixties were a period of much turmoil and commotion for the people of America. An era of protest from a lot of different sects of the community. From racial issues to political issues it seems that nobody agreed on anything during this period or is it because society was changing and society was more accepting to the voice of the troubled. Depending on the situation and the group of people, there would be different means of protest and how they went about doing it from sit ins to marches.
             Though racism has always been an issue since the days of slavery in the sixties is when black leaders and the black community believed that they could change they system. A big beginning was Dr. Martin Luther King who was the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Council. He was able to get the masses into starting rallies and strikes and doing marches to show white America that minorities were being treated unfairly. To me Martin Luther King seemed more like a pacifist because he believed very strongly for what he was fighting for but took the non violent approach. Instead of rioting or demonstrating with force he was still able to get his message across to the people and to even the president.
             Also around the time of racial protests another very big concern was going around in America and that was the war in Vietnam. Though in the early sixties not much of the U.S military was stationed there under President Kennedy. Then after his assassination when Johnson was president the military occupancy rose to around half a million. Since the media was developing at a fast rate the people could watch on television as Americans got bombed and shot and this alarmed country.
             The Vietnam war sparked a lot of different types of protest from a lot of different types of people. The draft had been set in place again and a lot of the minorities and poor people were getting drafted instead of the middle white class. This had a lot...
